19th February 2019

Welcome to my latest Pethers Prayer Line.

Thanks to a number of you who contacted me to say how much you appreciated my sharing about some of the things that my wife Lynn has been engaging in.  I will be sure to include more news and prayer updates in the future!

The past week has been filled with a number of really helpful meetings:

Our UK Board meeting was really encouraging, the highlight being, a presentation by David Vincent, The Rooftop London Coordinator, regarding plans for the Rooftop in London during 2019 and 2020.

London is a vast city with numerous ministries and initiatives that are taking place.  The Rooftop is seeking to partner with a variety of these ministries and initiatives to explore ways that will result in unity as ‘the church in London Joins Jesus in His Mission’.

Jesus said “I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18) and in the gospel of John, Jesus prayed:

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me”.  John 17:20

If you have known me for a while it is likely that you have heard me tell the story of ‘perhaps the most powerful prayer I have ever heard’.  This prayer has never left me and, as I see what God is beginning to open up across London, and in many other parts of the world, it is constantly in my mind.

The prayer, read by an Anglican priest, in a Churches Together service in a town called Didcot, in the UK some years ago, went like this:

“God help us to knock down the walls that divide us and use the bricks to build bridges into our communities.  Amen”.

I am looking forward to seeing how this will develop across London and the world.

As well as the encouragement of the Board meeting was the ‘discouragement’ of speaking with the person who has been considering the role of Latin American Pioneer for The Rooftop.  He is excited by what the Lord is doing and fully understands our immediate need for a pioneer to connect with countries across Latin America where the doors are wide open for The Rooftop.  However, at this stage, he does not feel that he has heard the Lord’s confirmation that he should take on this role.  I fully respect his decision and know that God will make His will clear regarding how we should proceed – He knows what He is doing!

‘Joining Jesus’ Podcast.

I mentioned previously that I will soon be beginning a regular podcast around the theme of ‘Joining Jesus’.  You may remember that each Podcast will be centered around different people, in different parts of the world, who are joining Jesus in His Mission and will include:

  • A conversation with a Christian who is joining Jesus in His Mission where they are living.
  • Biblical teaching that edifies and empowers every Christian to join Jesus in His Mission.
  • Practical suggestions and helpful advice on how to Join Jesus in His Mission.

Thanks to a great deal of help from Alan Pattle, the International Operations Manager for The Rooftop, I have now made some real progress in preparation for a release of the first podcast on 1st April 2019.  In advance of this date I will be releasing a ‘podcast taster’ that will introduce the podcast and, I pray, encourage people from all over the world to connect.

As a prayer partner, I would be thrilled for you to connect with this podcast, for more details on how to do this, please email me at dennispethers@therooftop.org and just say ‘please provide more information about the ‘Joining Jesus Podcast’

Please pray for the following this week:

  • For Lynn as she continues to support the families that she is working with.  Please pray that she will stay strong and healthy and that her living witness will lead to lives being transformed by Jesus.
  • For my putting together the ‘Joining Jesus Taster Podcast’.  I will be spending some time on this during Monday and Wednesday and hope to be able to go live with it by the end of the month.  Please pray that God will inspire me as I create this and that He will use the podcasts to equip Christians across the world to Join Jesus in His Mission.
  • On Thursday I will be meeting with Lord Wei, a committed follower of Jesus who serves the UK government in the House of Lords.  We met at a recent conference hosted by City Vision and we are keen to meet again and speak more about ways that God’s Kingdom can impact and influence cities across the world.  Please pray that God will go before me.
  • Please also pray regarding the Latin American expansion of The Rooftop.  Pray that God will reveal His will for us and for the person we have been speaking with regarding the next step.

Thanks so much for your prayers and support.

11th February 2019

Welcome to my latest Pethers Prayer Line. This week, I want to share with you some of the amazing things that my wife Lynn has been engaging in.  Her ‘ministry’ is not as an ‘ordained’ person, rather she seeks to live her life with Jesus at the centre of all she is and does.  This is so clear in what happened over the past week.

In addition to her regular ‘job’ as a pre-school nursery nurse, Lynn also spends a great deal of her time helping families who are facing the enormous challenges of seeking to cope with children who have special needs.  It would not be appropriate to mention the families/children by name so, in each case, I have just used a letter.  Last week, Lynn received a call at midnight on Friday, from the Foster mother of ‘K’ who has severe ‘special needs’.  Her husband was in hospital having an emergency operation and now she had to be rushed into hospital for a life threatening emergency procedure.  This would mean that there would be nobody to care for K.

Within a few minutes of receiving the midnight call Lynn was in her car and on the way!  She was there throughout the night and until 7pm on Saturday evening.

On Sunday, Lynn was in communication with another lady, S, who she has been helping and S asked her why Lynn spent so much of her time helping other people.  Lynn’s answer was very ‘Lynn like’:  ‘I am just putting what I believe into practice’.  Her witness to so many people who have no connection with any church is remarkable!

Today, she will be spending time with ‘H’, a young boy with autism.

As for me, much of last week was spent in some important meetings in relation to the ongoing expansion of The Rooftop.  It was great to spend time with Stephen Gaukroger, the chairman of The Rooftop International and make important plans regarding The Rooftop Africa and The Rooftop Latin America.  It was also good to meet with leaders of Girl’s Brigade International Ministries to explore a global partnership possibility in the future.  The meeting was very positive and we are now putting ‘next steps’ into place.

Please pray for the following this week:

  •  For Lynn as she continues to support the families that she is working with.  Please pray that she will stay strong and healthy and that her living witness will lead to lives being transformed by Jesus.
  • Tonight, I have a meeting with the board of The Rooftop UK.  Please pray for us as we gather and make important decisions regarding the development of the ministry during 2019.
  • Today and tomorrow, I will be making contact with leaders from the countries in Latin America that I connected with on my recent trip.  Please pray that God will help me, and the leaders, to be open to His will as we explore next steps.
  • On Wednesday I have some meetings in London with key leaders.  Please pray that God will go before me.
  • On Thursday I will be spending time with The Rooftop International Operations Manager, Alan Pattle, and putting things into place in preparation for the podcast that I will be beginning in April.
  • On Friday I will be speaking the potential Latin American Pioneer for The Rooftop regarding the way forward.  Please pray that he and I will hear and discern the Lord’s will as we consider the future of The Rooftop Latin America.
  • Throughout the week, I will be writing ‘Joining Jesus’ and some papers in relation to ‘Expansion and development’ of The Rooftop.  Please pray that God will inspire and lead me as I do this.

Thanks so much for your prayers and support.

Dennis

4th February 2019

Greetings from the United Kingdom!  It is good to be at home for a while and to be able to spend some time with Lynn and my family.

Last week provided me with the opportunity to take a little time out and also to begin to plan next steps for the development of The Rooftop movement across Latin America and Africa.  It is remarkable to see the doors that God is opening in many countries across these 2 continents as well as across the United States, Europe and Asia.  To God be the glory!!

On Friday I took part in a day conference in London along with some highly gifted and experienced leaders from across the UK.   The conference was hosted by City Vision www.cityvision.life

The purpose of the day was to ‘confer’ around processes that can lead to city transformation as the Kingdom of God impacts a city.  For me this is a critically important topic as, if we are to ‘Join Jesus in His Mission’, the church, and individual Christians, must be empowered and equipped to see what Jesus is doing ‘in the marketplace’ and then live and share the gospel among people who are ‘Far from God’ but ‘Close to them’.

As well as being a really helpful day, the conference also provided me with the opportunity to make connection with some remarkable leaders and, over the next few weeks I will be meeting with some of these people to continue the discussion.  These meetings will, I believe, be very helpful to me as I lead The Rooftop movement in an increasing number of cities across the world.

Please pray for the following this week:

  •  Today I will be speaking with a person who is the potential ‘Latin American Pioneer’ for The Rooftop.  I do not think it would be appropriate to share his name at this stage but would really value your prayers that He and I will be listening to God as well as each other and that we will be obedient to His will regarding this vitally important role.
  • On Tuesday I will be meeting with Stephen Gaukroger, the chairman of The Rooftop International Council.  We have a great deal to discuss regarding expansion of the movement across Africa and Latin America.  Please pray for God’s wisdom!
  • On Wednesday I will be meeting with Alan Pattle, the International Operations Manager for The Rooftop.  Our primary focus will be on the website and social media connections for The Rooftop.  As the movement continues to grow it is vital that our website and other communications share the story of what God is doing through the ministry.
  • On Thursday I will be meeting with the International president and European leader of ‘Girls’ Brigade Ministries’, (GBMI) an international ministry that helps girls and young women across the world to ‘Seek, serve and follow Christ’.  We are exploring a potential partnership between ‘The Rooftop and GBMI!  Please pray that God will go before me and that His will is done.
  • On Friday I will be meeting with David Vincent, the coordinator for The Rooftop across London.  There are many exciting developments and opportunities in the near future and I would appreciate your prayers for David and I as we seek the Lord’s will for The Rooftop in London.
  • Lynn has been below par over the past week.  She has continued to work but has not been at all well – prayers for her speedy return to full health are appreciated.

Thanks so much for your prayers and support.

Dennis

28th January 2019

Greetings from Buenos Aries, Argentina.

I am now coming to the end of my trip across Latin America and, throughout the trip God has continued to work in remarkable ways.

At the beginning of the week I had the opportunity to present the vision of The Rooftop to a large group of pastors from across Lima and beyond at the Bible Society offices in the city.

As I shared the vision of ‘Joining Jesus in His Mission’ and the need for a paradigm shift that will result in churches becoming ‘missional, disciple making communities’ there was a great deal of really purposeful dialogue and an enthusiastic response to the vision.  It seems that God has opened a wide door for The Rooftop in Peru!

Conversations with pastors in Peru have also led to further opportunities for development in Chile, Brazil, Colombia and even in London as one pastor has very strong links with a large Hispanic church in London and believes that The Rooftop would be an enormous help to them.

On Wednesday I travelled to Buenos Aries, Argentina and spent time with pastor Diego who had organized a ‘Rooftop Conference’ for pastors from across the region of Buenos Aries where he is based.

On Saturday evening I had the opportunity to present the vision of The Rooftop at ‘The Rooftop Conference’  to a large gathering of people, including pastors from churches across the area – God spoke powerfully and many welcomed the vision of The Rooftop and are keen to see it introduced into Argentina.

Yesterday I preached at ‘El Giante Es JesuCristo’  ‘The Church of Jesus Christ the Giant’ in Rafael Castillo, in Buenos Aries.  Many of the Christians who had been present at the conference on Saturday had invited friends and neighbours to the Sunday gathering. The presence of God was ‘powerfully tangible’ and at the end I invited people to repent and receive the forgiveness and new life that is offered by the one who ‘brings the Kingdom close’.  The response was truly awesome, especially as many who had been invited as guests surrendered their lives to Christ with tears of repentance and joy – praise God!!

Throughout the whole of this trip to Latin America it has been clear that God has gone before me, now we begin to formulate a Latin America strategy!

Today I head back to the UK

Please pray for the following:

  • That those who came to faith in Buenos Aries will become effective disciple-making followers of Jesus.
  • That the churches, pastors and leaders I have shared with will be willing to ‘Join Jesus in His Mission’ and connect with The Rooftop movement.
  • For a safe trip back to the UK
  • On Friday I will be participating in a strategic meeting with ‘City Vision’ an increasingly global ministry that it exploring ways of bringing unity across and between cities as they follow Jesus.  Please pray that this meeting, and my input, will be helpful and result in churches being used to grow the Kingdom.
  • I will also be focusing on preparation for ‘The Rooftop Africa Summit’ that is taking place in June.  This is a way off but will be a key gathering of all of The Rooftop Pioneers from across Africa with a view to establishing an ‘Africa-wide’ strategy.  Please be praying as I put together a draft programme, we want to make the most of this unique opportunity.
  • Please also continue to pray for Lynn, she has been unwell for the past couple of days.

Thanks so much for your prayers and support.

In Jesus,

Dennis

21st January 2019

Greetings from Lima Peru.

I am still in the middle of my trip across Latin America and, once again, it has been remarkable to see the ways that God works.

The time in Honduras was remarkable, I was able to preach in a number of churches as well as introduce the ministry of The Rooftop to leaders.  It was great to hear of at least two people who came to faith in Christ at on of the churches I spoke at.  One was a young man who for a long time had been resisting God but he finally surrendered his life to Christ with a determination not just to ‘go to church’ but to join Jesus in His Mission. Praise God!

There was also a great receptivity to the vision of The Rooftop and the Lord has led us to a potential National Pioneer.

At the end of my time in Honduras I was driven, by a great trio of young people, to the border with El Salvador.  The journey across the mountains, where roads were still being built was interesting!  At the border I met with Esau Canales, who had set up a number of meetings in El Salvador.  As with Honduras, I had the opportunity to preach in churches and present the vision of The Rooftop to leaders.  At one church where I preached a young man said that he wanted to speak with Esau and I at the end.  He spent an hour telling us about his life of addiction and how he wanted to be a good father to his 2 children and husband to his long-suffering wife but had never believed that he was good enough for God.  As he heard that ‘The Kingdom of God’ comes near to the hopeless and fills them with hope, he repented!!  The immediate transformation that was visible on his face, and that of his wife was a thrill to see.

As in Honduras, there was a great receptivity to the vision of The Rooftop and the Lord has led us to a potential National Pioneer.

I am now in Lima, Peru, and yesterday preached at the ‘Church of the Bible’ in La Molina, a suburb of Lima.  The response to the challenge to Join Jesus in His Mission was wonderful as, in both morning gatherings, people stood, faced out to the world and made promises to join Jesus in His Mission. I have also met with some pastors here and there is huge interest in The Rooftop vision.

It has been great to be accompanied in Lima by Julia Crellin who is the PA to Stephen Gaukroger of the Clarion Trust.  Stephen is the chairman of the International Council for The Rooftop and Clarion Trust has provided the funds that have made it possible for Julia to be with me.  Julia speaks fluent Spanish and English and has been a great help as I have met with pastors, leaders and potential pioneers.

Over the next couple of days, I will be presenting the vision of The Rooftop to a group of pastors at the Bible Society building in Lima as well as meeting with a businessman who is keen to find out more about the vision.  I will also be continuing to see who the Lord will lead me to as the National Pioneer.

From Lima, I head to Buenos Aries, Argentina, on Wednesday.

Please pray for the following:

That those who have come to faith will become effective disciple-making followers of Jesus.

  • That the churches, pastors and leaders I have shared with will be willing to ‘Join Jesus in His Mission’ and connect with The Rooftop movement.
  • That God will speak clearly through me and go before me as I meet with the businessman today and with pastors tomorrow.
  • That God will lead me to those He is calling as National Pioneers.
  • For safe travel on Wednesday as I head to Argentina.
  • For God to open doors in Argentina:
    • I will be meeting with leaders on Thursday and Friday.
    • On Saturday I am speaking at a specially arranged conference to present the vision of The Rooftop to pastors from across Buenos Aries.
    • On Sunday I am preaching at various churches – please pray that Christians will respond to the vision and that those who don’t know Jesus will surrender and follow Him.
  • Please also continue to pray for Lynn, this is the last of my 3 weeks away!

Thanks so much for your prayers and support.

In Jesus,

Dennis

Happy New Year!

I hope that you have had a good break and been able to take time to reflect on the remarkable truth that ‘The Word became flesh and lived among us’.  This awesome truth marks the beginning of Jesus’ mission to ‘seek and to save the lost’ and it is His Mission that He invites us to join Him in wherever we are living in the world.

For me, it has been good to take some time to reflect on this truth and also to spend time with Lynn and my family.  Now, as the new year begins, I am looking ahead to what could be an amazing year for The Rooftop movement around the world. I wanted, in this first Newsletter of the year, to introduce some key themes for prayer.

As the movement continues to spread into new countries and continents there are some new features that I will be adding to The Rooftop during 2019.  As you know, the mission statement of The Rooftop is ‘Joining Jesus in His Mission’ and, as I travel the world, I see over and over again how important it is that leaders and Christian believers recognize that it is HIS mission that must be central to all that we are and do.

To this end, I am beginning two new initiatives:

‘Joining Jesus’ Podcast.

In a few weeks, I will begin a weekly podcast around the theme of Joining Jesus.  The Podcast will be centered around different people, in different parts of the world, who are joining Jesus in His Mission.  Each Podcast will include:

  • A conversation with a Christian who is joining Jesus in His Mission where they are living.
  • Biblical teaching that edifies and empowers every Christian to join Jesus in His Mission.
  • Practical suggestions and helpful advice on how to Join Jesus in His Mission.

As a prayer partner, I would be thrilled for you to connect with this podcast, for more details on how to do this, please email me at dennispethers@therooftop.org and just say ‘please provide more information about the ‘Joining Jesus Podcast’.

‘Joining Jesus’ Discipleship Process.

Throughout 2019 I will be introducing a discipleship process that I, and National Pioneers in countries around the world, will use to equip leaders and Christian believers to become effective disciple-makers.  This has 2 applications:

  1. Equipping pastors to become effective leaders of Missional communities.
  2. Equipping Christians to become, and make, disciples.

As the podcast and discipleship process are introduced, I would really appreciate your prayers that God will:

  • Inspire me to create material that He can use to equip His church to join Him in His Mission.
  • Enable our National Pioneers in countries around the world to gather leaders and Christians to join this process.
  • Use these resources to accelerate a global disciple-making movement.

Another key development in 2019 is the further spread of the movement into new continents.  This will begin very soon as I will be travelling to Latin America to launch The Rooftop in a number of countries.  Here is my itinerary:

Jan 9-12              In Los Angeles meeting with Hispanic pastors about an Hispanic church led Rooftop City Encounter in 2019.

Jan 12-15           In San Pedro Sula, Honduras, meeting with pastors and launching The Rooftop Honduras.

Jan 16-19           In La Union El Salvador, meeting with pastors and launching The Rooftop El Salvador.

Jan 19-23           In Lima, Peru, meeting with pastors and launching The Rooftop Peru.

Jan 23-27           In Buenos Aries, Argentina, meeting with pastors and launching The Rooftop Argentina.

Over the next few days I will be making final preparations for this trip, please be praying:

  • That the Lord will go before me and open the doors that He wants to open.  There are opportunities to meet with many pastors as well as regional and national leaders in each of the countries that I visit and it is important that we stay in step with HIS Mission.
  • For strength and stamina as I travel to many different places in a short period of time.
  • For my ‘Spanish’, I will be travelling with bi lingual people in each country but will also need to use Spanish – please pray that my learning will accelerate quickly.
  • For the funds needed for this trip.
  • For Lynn as I am away for three weeks.  I have been at home for a long spell (for me) and the first trip away after a period of being together is always harder.

Thank you so much.

Dennis

As the end of this year approaches and our focus, once again, turns to the staggering truth that ‘The word became flesh’ I want to wish you a Happy and Christ-filled Christmas, and thank you so much for the prayers and support that you have provided towards my ministry.

I truly couldn’t do this without you!

This will be my last newsletter of 2018 and is a little different from my usual weekly communication as I wanted to take this occasion to make a request for a ‘special gift’ that will help us as we move forward into a year of enormous opportunity.

As you will be aware, 2018 has been a year of enormous growth as we have expanded into new countries, reached and made disciples of people beyond the walls of the church, appointed new pioneers, translated the materials into 4 languages and seen God provide for us in ways that can only be explained as miraculous – all praise and glory go to Him!

As we now look ahead to 2019 the opportunities are even greater!  We have opportunities to:

  • begin The Rooftop in countries across Latin America
  • appoint a Latin America Pioneer
  • begin The Rooftop in countries across Europe
  • begin The Rooftop in countries across Asia
  • Host Rooftop Encounters in up to 50 cities across the world
  • launch and develop an increasingly global ‘disciple-making’ process ‘Joining Jesus’.
  • Begin a podcast that will equip Christians to ‘Join Jesus in His Mission’.
  • Begin ‘The Rooftop Media’ and broadcast ‘Good News stories’ from across the world.
  • Expand ‘Friends of Jesus’ enabling is us to reach and make disciples among some of the poorest people.

These opportunities make it possible for us to reach thousands upon thousands of people across the world, our passion is to populate heaven with the people that Jesus came to seek and to save.

To enable us to take these opportunities we need funds.  This Christmas, as we remember the mission that Jesus came to accomplish, I wanted to ask if you would be willing to make a special gift.

The gift that you give will enable us to help people across the world to ‘Join Jesus in His Mission’ and reach and make disciples of vast numbers of people across the world who are beyond the walls of the church.

You can make a special gift online by visiting our website www.therooftop.org and hitting DONATE.

If you would prefer to send a check please make payable to The Rooftop International and send to:

In the United States:  The Rooftop International, 420 Annapolis Circle, Hermitage, Tennessee, 37076

In the United Kingdom: The Rooftop International, 38 The Chase, South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, CM3 5PY

I will be back in touch in the new year with my regular newsletter.

Thank you so much.

In Jesus,

Dennis

19th November 2018

Thanks so much for your prayers over the past couple of weeks during which time I have taken some days out to celebrate a ‘milestone birthday’.  It has been great to be able to spend time away with Lynn and our children Gregg, Scott and Amy.  We have had a great time of reconnecting and celebrating – I have a wonderful family and I am so grateful to God for them.

Now that I am back into things my focus is on seeking to get many things in place in preparation for what promises to be a huge year for The Rooftop movement in 2019.

As we approach a new year I am, as always, truly humbled by what the Lord is doing through this ministry and how He continues to impact lives and open doors literally across the world.  There is no question that this is His Ministry and without Him we would not be able to do any of the things that are currently taking place.

Here is a brief snapshot of some key things that are currently taking place:

  • People are coming to faith and being equipped to lead others to faith in Christ – we are being used by the Lord to make disciples who make disciples – praise God!
  • The ministry continues to develop in the UK and we have recently appointed a coordinator to oversee The Rooftop in London, his name is David Vincent.
  • In the US we are now making plans for Rooftop Encounters in Chicago, Washington D.C. Dallas, Nashville, Cincinnati, and Tucson in 2019.
  • Rapid growth is taking place in South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, D.R Congo and Tanzania.
  • The Rooftop is now beginning in Nigeria, Burundi, Madagascar RCA (Republic of Central Africa) and Namibia.
  • New doors are opening to launch The Rooftop in Latin America:  Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Argentina and Brazil.
  • New doors are also opening to launch The Rooftop in Asia:  South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Myanmar.
  • A new discipleship process ‘Joining Jesus’ will be released and used in several countries across the world in 2019.
  • The materials have been and are being translated into French, German, Spanish, Swahili and a number of African languages.

God is doing all of this!!

Prayer needs:

Please pray for the following items this week.

  • Please pray for all those that have come to faith through The Rooftop over recent times – pray that they will stay close to the Lord and continue to be discipled so that they will reach others and make disciples.
  • Our major challenge continues to be related to funds.  We need so little to do so much but are still trusting the Lord for His provision of urgently needed funds – please pray for His provision.
  • During this week I hope to be speaking with a potential Pioneer who will oversee the Hispanic development of The Rooftop.  Please pray that both he and I are open to the Lord’s guidance as we seek His will regarding this enormously important role.
  • I am devoting time to creating the ‘Joining Jesus Discipleship Process’ throughout the next few weeks.  Please pray that I will be guided by the Holy Spirit and that what is produced will be used by the Lord to enable disciples to be made across the world.
  • Please pray for my eldest Son Gregg who has now began his new job and is very positive about the future – this is such a blessing and I ask you to continue to pray for Him.

Thanks so much for your prayers.

In Jesus,

Dennis

5th November 2018

Thanks so much for your prayers over the past week which was the last leg of my 9 week visit to the US.  God has continued to do amazing things!

The week began in Tucson and it was really good to be joined by our US Pioneer, John Whaley and meet with pastors from across the city as we prepare for a City Encounter across Tucson in 2019.  God had clearly gone before us and many doors are opening across the city as we are connecting with many churches from a variety of denominations.  Jesus said ‘I will build my church’ (singular not plural) and He also prayed that Christians would live in unity so that the world would believe that the Father had sent Him into the world.  The Rooftop is focused on bringing churches from across cities to stand together as ‘the church’ and seek God’s passion for the lost and be prepared to join Jesus in His Mission!  It is great to see this happening in cities across the world.

Following Tucson, I headed to Phoenix and met with pastors from across the ‘Valley Rim’ Association.  Plans are now being put into place for a City Encounter in 2019!

The latter part of the week was spent in Yuma, a city on the western side of Arizona that borders with California and Mexico.  On Friday evening I spoke at the Yuma Baptist Association Annual Meeting on the subject of ‘Reaching people beyond the walls of the church’.  God moved powerfully and many were deeply challenged to Join Jesus in His Mission.  We are now planning a City Encounter in 2019.

On Saturday I traveled just across the border into San Luis, Mexico and met with pastors from a number of churches across the city.  I presented the vision of The Rooftop and there was a really enthusiastic response and we are now planning a City Encounter in Santa Luis in 2019.

Yesterday I preached at Immanuel church in Yuma and challenged those who gathered to recognize that where they live and work and enjoy leisure time is the mission field where God has placed them and that He is inviting them to Join Him in His Mission.  The response was amazing as the whole church came to ‘The Rooftop’ and prayed that God would give them a fresh vision of His heart for the lost.

During the week I was contacted by a person who feels that God may be calling them to join us as The Latin American Pioneer for The Rooftop, you may remember that I mentioned previously that we have been seeking the Lord and asking Him to guide us to His person for this role.  We had a great conversation and are now praying and seeking God’s will.

I also heard from our pioneer in Tanzania, Ezekiel who informed that the 2-day journey across his country to launch The Rooftop in Kativa was not helped by a puncture and the car they were travelling in, breaking down.  But they continued to drive for several hours and on arrival shared the vision of The Rooftop with the hundreds of pastors that had gathered – praise God!

Following my time with the people at Immanuel I drove to Phoenix and then flew back to England  – home at last!

In my next Newsletter I will send a brief summary of where things are now at with The Rooftop around the world.

Prayer needs:

Please pray for the following items this week.

  • I still need to raise funds for the Latin American trip in January 2019. Please pray that the Lord will provide!  The sum I need is $5000.
  • Please pray the pastors who gathered in the Katavi region of Tanzania. Pray that what they heard and experienced during their time together will impact their evangelism and disciple-making now that they are back home.
  • Boniface Ojode, our Kenyan Pioneer will be launching The Rooftop in a new region of Kenya this week. Please pray that the Lord goes before Him.
  • Please pray concerning the possible pioneer for the Latin American region as we seek the Lord’s will concerning this important role.
  • Now that I am back in the UK, I am taking a couple of days off to spend time with Lynn and to recharge my physical and spiritual batteries – 9 weeks away is a long time and I am pretty exhausted. Please pray that I will be refreshed!

Thanks so much for your prayers.

In Jesus,

Dennis

29th October 2018

Thanks so much for your prayers over the past week.

I am pleased to say that Lynn is now feeling much better- thanks for your prayers.zk

Most of the past week was spent in LA where I was meeting with a number of Hispanic pastors regarding three key objectives.  You may remember my requests, here is what happened:

  • We are considering the possibility of an LA wide Rooftop Encounter being led by Hispanic churches. Please pray that God will make His will known to us.

We had some great meetings regarding this and the unanimous and enthusiastic decision was that this should go ahead.  A small group has come together to plan this and I will be back in LA early in the new year to speak with pastors from across the city.

  • I will be meeting with several pastors who have links into a number of countries in Central and South America. Our intention is to travel to 6 countries in Latin America in January 2019 and lead Rooftop Encounters in 6 cities.  Please pray that we keep in step with the Spirit as we discuss and make plans for 2019.

Meetings with pastors has resulted in a likely itinerary early next year that will include Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Peru, Argentina and Brazil.

  • A great need for the development of The Rooftop into Latin America is a bilingual Pioneer who can develop the ministry. I am actively seeking the person that the Lord is preparing for this role.  Please pray I will be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

I had many conversations with possible ‘Pioneers’ and, at this stage, the Lord has not led us to a person.  However, a group of 4 pastors have each offered to help in introducing The Rooftop into the Hispanic countries and it may be that this is the way that the Lord wants to do it.

I have also continued with my focus on seeking to raise funds for the ministry and, to be honest, the past week has been very challenging and disappointing as I have not had responses from a number of people who had expressed a desire to support the ministry.  I continually remind myself that God is in control!

I am now in Arizona and had a great day yesterday preaching at 1st Baptist Church in Enchanted Hills (South West Tucson), in the morning I preached on the mission of Jesus and, in the evening, I led a Rooftop Encounter on the hillside next to the building where the church meets, it was great to be joined by John Whaley, the US Pioneer who is in Arizona for the week.  God moved in deep and significant ways in the lives of many who gathered and there was a great response to the challenge to join Jesus in His Mission.

Prayer needs:

Please pray for the following items this week.

  • I will need to raise funds for the Latin American trip in January 2019. Please pray that the Lord will provide!  The sum I need is $5000.
  • Throughout this week, The Rooftop is being launched to a gathering of 300 pastors in the Katavi region of Tanzania. Please pray for a mighty move of God and that there will be an awakening as churches join Jesus in His Mission.
  • Today (Monday), John Whaley and I, are meeting with leaders from across Tucson to begin to plan a city-wide encounter in the fall of 2019. Please pray that the Lord goes before us.
  • On Tuesday through to Thursday, I will be meeting with pastors from Tucson, Casa Grande and Phoenix, regarding the discipleship process ‘Joining Jesus’ that I will be beginning in 2019. Please pray that the Lord leads and that the group that comes together is the group that He wants.  Please also pray for me as I complete the writing of this!!
  • On Friday I head to Yuma on the western side of Arizona and will be speaking at the Yuma Baptist Association Annual Meeting. Please pray that the Lord speaks through me.
  • On Saturday I will be crossing the border into Mexico to encourage pastors to hold Rooftop Encounters in 2019. Please pray that the Lord goes before me.
  • On Sunday I will be preaching at Immanuel Baptist Church in Yuma. Please pray that the Lord speaks through me.  Then, I drive to Phoenix and fly back to London!!

Thanks so much for your prayers.

In Jesus,

Dennis
